Jay Meets Jay: The Shiny Suit Theory

It's official as tissue, the homey that held undoubtedly the best song of '09 "Exhibit C", Jay Electronica is signed to the Roc...Roc Nation that is.  The best phrase to describe this event and signing is, "hard work pays off..." The homey Jay Elect has endured a lot throughout the years while slowing making an impact on the game.  Welcome and congratulations homey...

J.Cole & Drake...

Never thought I'd see the say so soon that these two would collaborate.  Not saying that I was hoping for a beef of some sort but, because you don't likely see two popular upcoming artist join forces so soon without starting beef.  Look at 50 and Hov, Nas and Hov, Jeezy and Guc...hold up on that.  It's a breath of fresh air to see this happen and in hip-hop, its a beautiful outcome.

Friday Night Lights will be here tomorrow, until then hold on to this track...specifically catering to the ladies.

"In The Morning" (Featuring Drake) - J.Cole

SideBar: The internets are saying that Drake took this one but, I say what would you expect on a specific female ballad.  Besides Fab, Drake owns that lane.  I'm anticipating the two go bar for bar on the next upcoming collabo i.e. "Light Up".

SideBar: This is actually a old track by Cole that was featured in the unofficial, "A N*gga From the Ville" only thing different is the last verse.

"Tongue Out, Jeans Cuff It Tho..."

Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager...

I'm a day late but, just by this cover placement alone...you know the deal.  Support the true artists...

SideBar: Definitely a phenomenal album.  Not a classic but, surely an embodiment of work that's enticing to the ears.

Roman?

I don't do rumors or fuel them but, just recently on the wild world of YouTube, I found a video that was interesting.  I remember viewing this video a couple years back (when Jay-Z re-emerged with Kingdom Come) about a young woman confessing to having sexual relations with Remy Ma (keep ya head up Remy, we miss you here...) and now that I think of it, and considering the rising speculation, was this culprit Nicki Minaj/Roman Zolanski/Martha?

Breaking News...

Michael Jackson Breaking NewsMove over fourth quarter line up because on December 10th, the King of Music will reign supreme once again with his first posthumous album titled, Michael.  Here is the first offering along with the album cover.

Breaking News - Micheal Jackson (Stream Link)

In respect and admiration for this man and icon, I'm not going to post the download link but instead the site where you'd be able to stream the single.  Of course, there's going to be other sites that'll post it with no problem but, we'll be the odd ball by not doing so.  R.I.P. MJ and this single is definitely the reason why your music will always be timeless.

December 10th...

SideBar: This is one of the best album covers I've ever seen point, blank, period.

#ClassicFriday

What...today's not Friday? Yeah, I already know but as many of you (maybe even some), okay some of you may have realized that there wasn't a #ClassicFriday feature this and last week.  Sorry about that.  The question is how am I going to make it up? Why not continue with what's looked like a "Weezy Week" this past week.

As you might know, the Cash Money savior (yeah, he's kept that light lit for these past couple years...matter of fact since the break up of the Hot Boys) and Young Money goon, Lil' Wayne has finally made it out of Rikers.  He's been missed by many including the haters and it's only right to show the Hollygrove boy some love...

Just Because...Sorry Waka

I've been replaying this video over and over again with no foresight of me stopping. I remember Waka stating that he didn't like it but, this is pretty hilarious parody on Waka's "Hard in the Paint"...

"See Oprah that's my motherfu*kin'..."

"Bullet, Bullet..." (Uncle Murda voice)

Diggy drops off a dope freestyle over Keni Burke's classic track, "Rising to the Top" along with having a surprising co-sign from the homey Uncle Murda...weird right? But, it works...

"Rising to the Top" Freestyle - Diggy

The Carter...

"Its Weezy F Baby, the mother f*cking Carter..."

As we all have been anticipating his release, the homey Mr. Carter is finally home. Fresh off an eight month long bid, its been kind of tough and unusual not hearing the Louisianimal ripping highlight tracks to shreds. He's carried the hip-hop torch for so long that the void of his absence was inevitably felt. Sure, we had a couple prepared singles and verses released since he left us (i.e. I Am Not A Human Being, etc.) but, it still wasn't enough to satisfy the ears of many yearning for that possessed monster-like rambunctious flow.

What was surely missed was the bulk load of remix and guest feature opportunities (at least we got the Eminem collabo) that called for his appearance.

Imagine, a "B.M.F." (Remix)..."My name is TuneChi, Mr. Carter, fresh from New Orleans, don't let the water drown ya..." Or maybe a "Beamer, Benz, or Bentley", "Beamer, Benz, Or Bentley, my pockets never empty, Keema calling Cindy, two women and one Tunechi..." Even a "Lemonade" freestyle, "cup full of S-Y-R-U-P, my cup full of S-Y-R-U-P..." Okay maybe I should just stick to writing stories (lol). But, there were so many singles that were calling Wayne's name. Picture him over, Waka's "Hard In the Paint" or maybe even on Ye's "Monster". There was a whole lot of possibilities.

Coming from someone who's joined in the rifts that called him "overratted" or "overly annoying" during the years, it wasn't until this eight month long absence in the game that the the realization ensued of how important Wayne is to hip-hop culture. The realization reach its high point when Weezy was caught with an mp3 player in his cell. If that doesn't show dedication and loyalty to your craft as well as fans, than I don't know what is. How much of a music fanatic can you be to take such a risk...in a federal prison?

There are only a few artists that exhibit pride, determination, and dedication in their work. A couple that aren't' afraid to shed some blood, sweat, tears, or time in order to create. And then there's one that embodies all of these key characteristics...

Welcome Back, Mr. Carter.

G.O.O.D. Friday Morning...

The latest release in Yeezy's brilliant G.O.O.D Fridays campaign...

"The Joy" (Featuring Pete Rock, Jay-Z, Charlie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield & KiD CuDi) - Kanye West

Props to Kanye West

SideBar: Looks like this was the track Pete Rock was talking about a couple weeks ago when he said he got a track with Hov rapping like his Reasonable Doubt days.  As much as I anticipated this track I'm kind of disappointed that it was a G.O.O.D. Friday release typically because its such a goooooood track that should have been kept under wraps within the Watch the Throne LP. Then again, that's just my thoughts.  Hopefully Pete Rock has some other type of production on the dream-like duo album.  [Keeps fingers crossed]

Weekend Re-Cap...

This weekend's been one interesting weekend for hip-hop.  First we got Vado co-signing Justin Bieber's "Speaking In Tongues" freestyle while blatantly stating "he sounded like (Notorious) B.I.G." #MAJORFAIL, to the release of three of the most important album covers for the most anticipated album releases for the jam-packed month of November.  Check 'em out...

Banned...?

Seriously Yeezy? I'm a big fan of yours and all but, come on homey? Did you really think Def Jam was going to co-sign this album cover? Remember when Kiss had a hard time with trying to release the latter titled The Last Kiss to Kiss My Ass? That plan got halted after the first two months.  Let's not even mention NaS and his latter solo album Untitled.

Now, I know you're all about pushing the envelope in music and all but this album cover does nothing but spark controversy which clearly distances away from the message of the album.  The message is far from ambigious instead kind of degrading.   With that said, let's see what else you got....

Where Were You on February 23, 1995...?

History is right before your eyes, or ears. One corner is Harlem's legendary punchline kingpin, Big L and the next is the G.O.A.T Hov. Who would've known that more than ten years later this freestyle would be one of hip-hop's most iconic sessions to date. True fans that was there to hear it live, remember that the original freestyle between the two spitters went on for about 10 minutes on February 23rd, 1995 episode of The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show on WKCR.  Thanks to DJ Premier Blog & HecticEclectic , we now have a piece of history.

#Slime Flu...

If you didn't cop, what are you waiting for Slime...

SideBar: Mixtape/Album is dope

"Showtime"

It almost goes without saying that Swizz Beatz is one of hip-hop's most revered producers.  Quite frankly and to make a long story short, one of hip-hop's greatest of all time.  Starting at the age of 17, the "Skinny Ni**a" was able to produce for notable acts such as his friend DMX, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, and his entire Ruff Ryders camp. Aside from such a wide roster of legendary producers ranging from the king DJ Premier and essential figures such as Dr. Dre, Pete Rock, Large Professor, L.E.S., Q-Tip, RZA, and so on, Swizzy has been able to maintain his own lane throughout his illustrious 10+ year career.

Personally, coming from a time when mafioso rap was beginning too become cliche in the mid to late '90s along with the death of B.I.G. and Pac leaving an everlasting void in the game, the sound that resonated from the Ruff Ryders camp revolutionized hip-hop as a whole.  It was almost similar to the breaking of the Berlin Wall, the way they tore up and changed the culture with the new sound serving as their backdrop.  What differentiates Swizzy from a whole cast of other producers is his ability to create a range of genres of music outside of rap such as R&B and hip-hop/soul to name a few. Tracks like "Jigga That N*gga", "Wild Out", "Ruff Ryders Anthem"and even up to now "Put It in a Love Song" (Alicia Keys/Beyonce), "Million Dollar Bill" (Whitney Houston), "Gucci Time"(Gucci Mane), "On to the Next One"(Hov), "Fancy"(Drake) gives reason to why he will always remain firm in his untouchable placement in not just hip-hop history but, music as a whole.

Don't Erase Us Yet, We Just Getting Started...

WE'RE BACK

It's been almost a month since Pushin' Mounts updated its posts and for the fans and followers, we apologize. But, its not like we did this for no reason, there's about to be some major moves being made with PM and our brief hiatus was a result of it.  Don't need to worry about it happening again however, it's just hard not penning down posting these thoughts.  Look out for the changes and how about that new banner. Big shouts goes to my bro #AllertPhotography.

Keepin' It Real...

Brooklyn, New York is one of hip-hop's most notorious yet important places. It holds so much history. From Big Daddy Kane, MC Lyte, Jay-Z, to the late The Notorious B.I.G., the borough that keeps it so thorough has given hip-hop some of its most iconic and respected figures.

Of those figures, one that hasn't completely received the shine he very well deserves is the man that stole the ears of many when he recited the following lyrics on NaS' '94 cult classic, "Life's A Bitch"...

Just had this track on repeat today.

"Back To the Topic Freestyle" - J.Cole

If you're not familiar, J.Cole dropped this freestyle a year ago.  This is before the Blueprint 3, before Pushin' Mounts, and a few months after The Warm Up.   One word to describe this freestyle, ILL!!!

Sorry, I don't mean to be so blunt but, boy was the VMAs something or what.  From Nicki Minaj performing her soon to be instant hit on the Billboard charts with Mr. will.i.am "Check It Out" , to an incredible performance by the homey Drizzy Drake featuring none other than Mary J. Blige & Swizz Beatz performing originally her song, and the highlight of the night KANYE VS TAYLOR SWIFT...

Kanye/Rae Collabo...

Looks like the two came through for this Justin Bieber remix.  I'm sure I wasn't the only one concerned and skeptical about this collaboration especially since its on a Justin Bieber track.  No disrespect to Bieber but, most fans like myself would rather find Rae and Kanye collaborating on a classic hip-hop cut rather a Pop record. But, with this release I have to admit it's actually DOPE.  The idea to use the "Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nothin’ To Fuck With" was genius.

Hopefully a collabo between the duo could be seen in the near future, possibly including Ghostface.

"Runaway Love" (REMIX) (Featuring Kanye West & Raekwon) - Justin Bieber

Looks like God's Son is officially making his return soon...#EPIC moment below...

"Clap On, Clap Off..."

Fab drops his latest visual for the forthcoming There Is No Competition 2: The Grieving Music EP which releases tomorrow.

SideBar: Overall, after listening to the EP, the mixtape was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.  This EP reminds me much of '03's Street Dreams, where Fab includes mostly commercial friendly tracks while displaying no signs of lyrical maturation.  He seems stuck on killing the competition through his braggadocio lyrics of money instead of lyrical intricate wordplay. Hopefully, Loso's Way 2 proves different.

Never Can Say Goodbye...

Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur. These are just a few of the many artists that have captivated the ears and hearts of many through music. Whether it was showcasing their electrifying stage presence, ability to croon such soulful-esque vocals, or by even lyrically providing vivid imagery for the inner dwellings of many urban communities.

Although their tragic deaths, it is the legacy of these artists, brought forth by their music, that have and will continue to keep their spirits blooming.

It was only a year ago when the world lost an artist that could only be described as quintessential. One of one. A man that captured our hearts with his melodic voice and touched our soul with the assist of that signature glove. The man that proved what almost seemed impossible, possible on the night of March 25th, 1983 (Motown 25) and made the world come to a complete halt on June 25th, 2009.

No one has ever witnessed such groundbreaking charisma and jaw dropping talent all in one artist. But, then again no one has ever witnessed a star as brighter than Michael Jackson.

MONSTER

This post is indeed late but, yesterday (8/27/10) in the G.O.O.D spirit of things Kanye decided to  drop his "Monster" of a single. Previously released as a snippet, the G.O.O.D Friday selection features Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and Nicki Minaj all on one track, with Nicki stealing the best verse hands down.

Monster (Featuring Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj,  & Bon Iver) - Kanye West

This is also suppose to be the second track off this...

SideBar: With Nicki having the best verse will it still make the EP? When will this EP drop? Will this already hip-hop wet dream of an EP, really exist????? Suspense is a mother***....

Hip-Hop's BabyGirl

It's still hard to imagine that its been 9 years since the death of Aaliyah Dana
Haughton, better known by her stage name, Aaliyah. The late R&B songstress that was also an actress and model, was able to accomplish many feats during her lifetime, making her one of R&B's most proficient talents. From taking part in the popular television show, Star Search, the young vocalist from Detriot was able to grasp the attention of Jive Records. At the age of 12, Aaliyah was officially signed to a recording label.

With her debut, Age Aint Nothing But a Number, Aaliyah was able to sell three million copies throughout the United States, achieving double platinum certification. As controversy arose about her marriage to R. Kelly, Aaliyah signed to Atlantic records where the alliance with rising producer, Timbaland, and female emcee, Missy Eliott was built.

By 1996 her sophomore album, One in a Million, released dropping hit singles "If You're Girl Only Knew", "Hot Like Fire", and "4 Page Letter". Although reaching number 18 on the Billboard 200, One in a Million was able to garner another three million copies sold in the United States, while 8 million worldwide. Her talents were beginning to grasp major attention. Furthering this attention was her appearance in her first major film, Romeo Must Die, alongside lead actor Jet Li in 2000, which scored huge success at the box office.

"Get You're Self Up and Try It Again..."

After the release of the film and its accompanying soundtrack (in which she executive produced), Aaliyah landed her major hit with "Try Again" which gained a Grammy nomination and several VMA awards including Best Female Video and Best Video from a Film.

In 2001, her eponymous album released and soon tragically became her last. The album, executive produced by Timbaland, gave leeway to a newfound and well deserved fame/recognition for Aaliyah. The album spawned several hits including the self-empowering "More Than A Woman", "We Need A Resolution", and "Rock the Boat". The latter fatally became her last video.

Since her passing, millions of fans continue to have trouble coming to realization of her death. The young singer had so much of an impact to both her fans and music. Her abundance of musical contributions to both hip-hop and R&B has placed her in an eternal limelight. A limelight that's only given to the best of the best. Although the evident void in R&B remains since her loss, Aaliyah will never be forgotten.

The Pick of the Litter...

The late '90s, post Biggie/Pac and Bad Boy Era, was undoubtedly the golden age for New York/East Coast hip-hop.  Not to take away from the East Coast as a whole, but New York indeed held the spotlight. 1998-99 is still the year that  many hip-hop heads look back on,  due to its
abundnce of many unforgettable classics.

From  Jay-Z (alongside Dame and Biggs)  officially starting the Roc-A-Fella movement by bringing in the "Broad Street Bully", the entry of the LOX, to Big L's Lifestylez of tha Poor & Dangerous still being
in heavy rotation, can't forget about Lauryn Hill owning both the charts and radio with her magnum opus debut, and Canibus generating that huge underground buzz. Hip-Hop made a transformation from pop
and flashy to raw and street and there was all but one label that made sure it didn't turn back around.

1,000 Grams Vol. 1

For those that are skeptical of listening to Jeezy's latest mixtape offering, 1000 Grams, Vol. 1, stop.  To the many fans that felt like Trap or Die II (which I still believe is one of the best mixtapes to release this year, if not the best) didn't successfully follow up to its predecessor or felt like it was missing a few screws, say no more.  1000 Grams provides fans with what they craved for in Trap or Die II, Jizzle talking that blow sh*t over other rappers' instrumentals.  It's strictly an offering of Jeezy tackling this years' many favorable instrumentals from Lex Luger's "Hard in the Paint" and Kanye's "Power" to The Neptunes' "Popular Demand", not to mention the recent "B.M.F" instrumental (also produced by Lex Luger).  Each track definitely goes hard but then again, that's just what Jeezy does best right?

It's indeed a must listen while we await TM103

Jeezy & Ross...

What's up with these recent moves by Jeezy?  First, you get the real Big Meech on a track titled "The Real B.M.F." just to prove your affiliation, then you come up with this recent "Death B4 Dishonor (BMF Freestyle)" throwing very obvious subliminal shots..."C'MON SON!!!" (Ed Lover voice).

Rick Ross without a doubt has this summer on smash, releasing both a great body of work with Teflon Don and favorable street anthems/Billboard singles.  I mean, of course if you look it from a musical point of view, Ross did take Mr. 17.5's spotlight.  But, I mean it's like the common saying we all grew up to hear, "you snooze, you lose..." It's been a year since we had a Jeezy album and sometimes waiting too long for something presents a bittersweet. Either an anticipation will build or some will lose patience.

As both a Jeezy and Ross fan, a beef between the two would be a complete waste.  Instead of throwing subliminals and retracting them, lets get that TM103 movement going again...

You're better than this. Let's GO!!!!

UPDATE: As of August 12th, 1:03pm...

Ross dropped another summer banger too...

Money, Money, Money...

Apparently after signing with Bad Boy, you're recession-proof...

The Street Fam soldier, Red Cafe, delivers a gem with this track which will indeed spark up the clubs around the country boosting a feature by both a ghostwritten verse for Diddy and of course Fabolous.  If you follow the homey well enough, you'd know that Red Cafe almost never disappoints when it comes to making quality hit street records.  This here is no different.

"Money, Money, Money" (Featuring Diddy & Fabolous) (Produced By Jahlil Beats) - Red Cafe

SideBar: Cafe finally got one over on Fab.
